A team of hematologists from the Medical University of Lodz presented promising results of their research at the 52. Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology in Orlando, Florida, USA. The results give hope to those suffering from lymphoma and leukemia
The scientists from the Department of Experimental Hematology of the Medical University of Lodz are conducting research on Rnases (which catalyzes the degradation of RNA) from the spawn of the Northern Leopard Frog (Rana pipiens). These enzymes are expected to aide the therapy of certain types of lymphoma and leukemia which are now incurable.
The research programme was realized by the Department of Experimental Hematology under the supervision of Prof. Piotr Smolewski, and the research was carried out in co-operation with the investigators from the Department of Hematology managed by Prof. Tadeusz Robak with the team of Prof. Zbigniew Darzynkiewicz, the director of Brander Cancer Research Institute, New York College of Medicine and the researchers from Tamir Biotechnology Inc.
