"Pocket echocardiograph"

We are pleased to inform that a clinical study by Dominika Filipiak, a 6th year student of the Faculty of Medicine of the Medical University of Lodz was presented during the annual European Society of Cardiology congress held in Stockholm between 28th August 2010 and 1st September 2010. The study "Pocket echocardiograph - a valuable diagnostic tool for non-experts or just an ultraportable device for expert echocardiographers?" was conducted with the help of  the Associate Professor Piotr Lipiec from II Chair and the Department of Cardiology. The study concerned the application of pocket echocardiographs in diagnostic work-up of patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases. II Chair and Department of Cardiology was the first Polish centres implementing the usage of this innovative diagnostic tool.

ESC congress is the largest meeting of cardiologists from all over the world with more than 25.000 of participants and only the latest and most significant scientific reports are granted a presentation.

Studies presented during the congress were chosen among over 10 000 abstracts sent from research centers all over the world.  An acceptance of a study for presentation is considered a prestigious distinction and it is honored by the Polish Society of Cardiology with a grant covering the expenses of ESC congress participation. A presentation of a study performed by a student occurs very rarely and thus has to be considered a great success.
