First announcement

Objective

The objective is to give PhD students from the BUP network’s countries the possibility to meet and discuss scientific problems with focus on sustainable development in an interdisciplinary, international, multicultural, and regional context. In this way, students will also get the opportunity to become acquainted with other universities and their scientific traditions. The training program will be based on an interdisciplinary approach.

This international training program will enrich the students’ own perspectives on sustainable development with experiences and perspectives from other countries. At the same time it will serve as a platform for the development of a common understanding of the regional problematique and open avenues for future cooperation on these issues. Interdisciplinary training at the PhD-level is essential for creating an understanding between scientists and researchers with different backgrounds (Western and Eastern European cultures), and for their future collaboration for a sustainable future.

Methodology of the training

The training will take place 27 November — 1 December 2017, with the participation of 30 PhD–students and an expert team. The participants will have different nationalities and academic backgrounds; 10 from the area of Engineering, 10 from the area of Social Sciences/Humanities, and 10 from the area of Life Sciences/Environmental Sciences.

The training will have duration of 3 full days (with two days for travel, arrival on 27th November and departure on 1st December).

PhD-students will be offered training in interdisciplinary research cooperation with the guidance of an international group of experts composed of (other) senior scientists working on interdisciplinary research, benefiting from the interaction with them.

Program of the conference contains: lectures, workshops, students’ presentations of PhD work, individual consultancies of PhD work with international experts.

The training will be arranged in cooperation with the BUP Centre for Poland and BUP’s associated secretariat at the Lodz University of Technology, with Prof. Ireneusz Zbicinski as the main organizer.
